Climate in Every Classroom
Climate education should be accessible, interdisciplinary, and integrated into every classroom, not treated as an afterthought

The Problem

Climate Education is Inconsistent Across Schools

Climate education is implemented very differently across schools and districts across the United States. While some schools integrate climate learning across multiple subjects, many still limit it to standalone science lessons or do not prioritize it at all due to limited funding, resources, and teacher support. Research from Education Week found that nearly three-fourths of teachers have not received professional training on how to teach climate change, and only around 40% of science teachers reported taking a college course covering climate science. SAs a result, many students experience very different levels of climate literacy depending on where they live and learn.

Why it matters

Climate learning should connect across every subject

Climate change affects every part of our world, from science and public health to economics, history, technology, and policy. When climate education is only taught in isolation or just as a science, students miss opportunities to understand how these systems connect and therefore lack a full understanding of climate change. Learning climate in every subject helps students develop a greater understanding of climate challenges and solutions.
